People often assume success happens in a straight line.
It rarely does. Long before Harold Leffall landed his first million-dollar contract, life looked very different. He had left the security of a government job to chase a dream of owning a business. Instead of immediate success, he found himself facing bankruptcy, losing his home, watching his car get repossessed, and moving back into his mother's house with his young son. Most people would have called it failure. Harold calls it preparation. During that difficult season, he began working on something that had nothing to do with money. He learned how to speak confidently through Toastmasters. He attended networking events that made him uncomfortable. He wrote down his goals every day. Most importantly, he learned to keep moving even when fear was present. Then one unexpected phone call changed everything. A staffing company believed Harold's business was much larger than it actually was and invited him to partner on a government contract worth millions of dollars over several years. Looking back, Harold believes the greatest lesson wasn't about making money. It was about becoming the person capable of handling the opportunity when it finally arrived. Many of us want the breakthrough without the preparation. But sometimes the difficult seasons are building the character we'll need when the opportunity finally comes.
